LANSING, MI (WTVB) – While the national organization of the Boy Scouts of America (BSA) this week filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy, officials with the Michigan council say scouting in the state is not being affected.
According to Donald Shepard, Scout Executive and CEO of the Michigan Crossroads Council, the statewide group is not involved in the bankruptcy, and Boy Scouts meetings and activities, district andcouncil events, other Scouting adventures and service projects are taking place as usual.
Officials with the national organization of the Boy Scouts of America say they filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy “to equitably compensate victims while ensuring Scouting continues across the country.”
The Michigan Crossroads Council, which provides programming, financial, facility, andadministrative support to local units and individual Scouts in the state, is separate and distinctfrom the national organization.
Shepard says their camps, properties, and all local contributions are controlled by their our council.
