LANSING, MI (WTVB) – The numbers of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Michigan continues to grow.
The state reported Saturday that there were 238 new cases reported along with two additional deaths.
Since March 10 when the first cases were reported, there have been 787 cases of COVID-19 confirmed.
Five deaths were reported at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday afternoon by the state but since that time, there have been reports the death toll has risen to eight including the first death in west Michigan. Spectrum Health reported a 71-year-old man with underlying health issues past away from the disease.
Nearly 700 of the cases are in the Detroit metropolitan area.
Saturday’s statistics included the first confirmed COVID-19 case in Calhoun County and that there was at least one case in 27 counties.
Of the 238 new cases, 99 were reported in the City of Detroit. 45 were reported in Oakland County, 34 in Wayne County outside of Detroit, 15 in Macomb County, 13 in Washtenaw County and nine in Kent County.
The City of Detroit now has the most cases in the state at 248 followed by Oakland County at 229, Wayne County outside of Detroit and Macomb County each with 101 cases and Washtenaw County with 29 cases.
