LANSING, MI (WTVB) – While Michigan residents are getting a break in filing their federal tax returns, the state has not yet approved a similar extention.
The Internal Revenue Service March 21 announced that the federal income tax filing due date is automatically extended from April 15, 2020, to July 15, 2020.
Taxpayers can also defer federal income tax payments due on April 15 to July 15 without penalties and interest, regardless of the amount owed. This deferment applies to all taxpayers, including individuals, trusts and estates, corporations and other non-corporate tax filers as well as those who pay self-employment tax.
The State of Michigan deadine is still April 15, although it’s expected that will be pushed back soon. State Representative Eric Leutheuser (R-Hillsdale) said Wednesday “It seems only a logical landing spot, and we think the administration will get there.”
