LANSING, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Governor Gretchen Whitmer is ordering flags to be lowered to honor and mourn those who have lost their lives due to the coronavirus outbreak.
On Friday she announced that all U.S. and Michigan flags should be lowered to half-staff indefinitely. All Michigan residents, businesses, schools, local governments and other organizations are encouraged lower the flag.
In a statement Governor Whitmer said, “The coronavirus pandemic has had devastating impacts on families across our state…As we continue on, we will carry their memories. My deepest condolences to the families of those whose lives were tragically cut short by COVID-19.”
The governor will release another statement when flags should be raised.
As of Friday, April 10, the state’s official COVID-19 tracking website reports that 22,783 individuals have tested positive for the coronavirus and 1,281 Michigan residents have died.
