DETROIT, MI (WTVB) – The COVID-19 pandemic may force Wayne State University to layoff employees and eliminate programs.
WSU President Roy Wilson sent a letter describing the effect the pandemic has had on the school. He says the university may have to cut its budget by $60 million and hinted at a possible tuition increase.
He said budget scenarios using different assumptions show a reduction of five-percent and a worst-case scenario of 15-percent or more to the WSU budget.
Wilson said his letter that while the outlook is not very good, he remains cautiously optimistic and enrollment in the fall will be “robust.”
