LANSING, MI (WTVB) – The Michigan House is moving to sue Governor Gretchen Whitmer over her response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Republican-led chamber approved a resolution Thursday that gives House Speaker Lee Chatfield the power to challenge Whitmer’s executive orders. The governor had asked the legislature to extend Michigan’s state of emergency for another 28 days, and the House adjourned for the week without approving the extension, with some lawmakers saying they felt it was too long.
The House also passed a bill the Senate passed last week that would limit the amount of time emergency declarations could continue without legislative approval to 14 days.
The state of emergency is separate from Whitmer’s stay-at-home order.
