KALAMAZOO/GRAND RAPIDS (WKZO AM/FM) — Protests in connection with the death of George Floyd are set to take place in Kalamazoo and Grand Rapids on Saturday, May 30th.
In Kalamazoo, the protest will begin at 12 p.m. in front of the Kalamazoo courthouse and at 6 p.m. on the Kalamazoo Mall.
In Grand Rapids the protest will begin at 6 p.m. at Rosa Parks Circle.
Saturday afternoon, protesters held a march through downtown Kalamazoo, holding signs that read, #BlackLivesMatter, “Justice for Mr. Floyd,” among others. They led chants saying “Black Lives Matter” and “I can’t breathe.”
The West Michigan protests are planned to be peaceful.The Grand Rapids event is called a “Silent March.” The description of the Grand Rapids Facebook event states. “You have a voice, use it Life is more than just surviving. Let’s come together safely and protest the daily injustices we face in a flawed justice system. No justice, no peace❗️Please remember we want everyone to be SAFE, Face masks are MANDATORY.
