KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Kalamazoo Public Safety officers are searching for suspects after shots rang out during a massive party on the city’s Northside.
Authorities received a 911 call around 2:30 a.m. Saturday from a citizen who said their vehicle was trapped in a crowd of people and other vehicles in the 1300 block of North Burdick Street.
When officers arrived they saw hundreds of vehicles and pedestrians completely blocking North Burdick between Paterson and Clay Streets, which could have prevented first responders from helping anyone near the area.
While they were attempting to disperse the crowd multiple shots were fired from an unknown subject. Most of the large crowd started to flee on foot and several more rounds of gunfire were heard.
Officers say there were no callers in reference to the shooter or shooters and no reports of victims or anyone injured, but several bullet casings were located in the area.
KDPS says it then took several hours and most of the cities resources, in addition to help from the Michigan State Police Department, to clear the crowds and vehicles in and around the area.
