LANSING (WKZO AM/FM) – An internal review by the state Unemployment Insurance Agency has discovered that app. 8.2 million dollars in duplicate payments were made, and the agency intends to attempt to get the money back.
The extra payments were made to about 3000 claimants.
Agency officials said the extra payments were made as the UIA was expediting benefits to those laid off due to the coronavirus.
Those who received the duplicate payments will be contacted soon regarding repayment.
