LANSING, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Governor Gretchen Whitmer wasted no time getting to work, on her first day issuing an executive order that she hopes will change the culture that led to the Flint water crisis and the suppression of a report on the dangers of PFAS.
The executive directive requires state employees to immediately report any imminent threat to public health, safety or welfare, encouraging them to come forward with the information.
It sets up a process for acting on such reports and requires that they be addressed.
She also specifically asked Attorney General Dana Nessel to look into the rushed effort to create a tunnel authority and whether there were any constitutional problems with the legislation.
The Governor also announced they are doing an assessment on the Federal shutdown and its impact on Michigan and whether they have the cash on hand to cover the cost of an essential service or program, should it become necessary.
