SODUS TOWNSHIP, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Editor’s Note – This story has been updated as of 09/22/21 to include the names of victims, as well as corrections issued Wednesday by the Michigan State Police.
The Michigan State Police have identified the victims in a recent Sodus Township crash that claimed two lives.
Previously, police reported that the crash occurred around 6:00 p.m. Monday in Solus Township. The crash is thought to have occurred due to wet road conditions.
A 2015 Toyota Corolla was traveling eastbound before it lost control, crossing the center lane and crashing into a westbound 2018 Subaru Outback on Sodus Parkway.
As of Wednesday, the driver of the Toyota has been identified as Robert Keys, a 42-year-old Niles man. Both Robert and his front seat passenger, Sylas Keys, a 13-year-old St. Joseph male, were pronounced dead at the scene.
They were identified as father and son.
The injured 8-year-old was also identified by police as the son of Robert and brother of Sylas. He currently remains in critical condition. Passengers of the Subaru were not injured.
All involved in the crash are said to have been wearing seat belts.
The crash is still under investigation at this time.

Two people were killed and three were injured in a crash involving two vehicles in Berrien County Monday evening. Emergency crews responded to Sodus Parkway near Watson Rd. in Sodus Township at around 6:00 p.m..
Investigations showed an eastbound vehicle lost control in wet road conditions and crossed the center lane before crashing into an SUV.
A 42-year-old driver from Niles and a 13-year-old passenger from St. Joseph inside the vehicle that lost control were pronounced dead at the scene. An 8-year-old boy seated in the back suffered serious injuries. All three occupants in the SUV, from the Berrien Springs area, had non-life-threatening injuries.
The crash remains under investigation.
