KALAMAZOO (WKZO AM/FM) — Six former members of the Kalamazoo School Board took the current board to task for the different way they chose to fill a vacancy on the board at their last meeting, sending their “tough love” in a letter.
The board filled the vacancy by appointing Jason Morris, the candidate in the November Election who finished third in the race to fill two board seats.
Former Trustees Eric Breisach and Barb Miller appeared at this week’s meeting, to tell the board that should have taken public input on using that selection method first.
Board President Patti Sholler-Barber says they were up against a state deadline to act and they still think this was the better way to go than to take applications and do interviews.
She say over eleven-thousand members of the public voted for Morris, and there would have been no way they could have gotten that kind of public input otherwise.
The former trustees just felt it should have been more transparent, with more public discussion on the decision making process.
