OTTAWA COUNTY (WHTC-AM/FM) — Ottawa County Sheriff’s deputies worked with Grandville police Friday afternoon, after a frantic mom called for help finding her missing infant, according to Ottawa County Sheriff’s Sgt. Brian Buter.
She told police she’d stopped at the Family Fare, 6480 28th Ave. in Georgetown Township, and ran into the store, leaving her 4-month-old behind in the car. She told police when she returned, the baby and car seat were missing. At about the same time, police were alerted that a baby had been found in the parking lot of a McDonald’s, 2980 44th Ave., Grandville.
Police investigators learned the parent “had unintentionally left their child” at that time, Buter said, and a couple had spotted the baby almost immediately and brought her inside the restuarant and alerted authorities.
Authorities took the baby to DeVos Children’s Hospital where doctors determined the baby was uninjured. Child Protective Services took temporary custody of the baby, Buter said. The incident happened just before 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 11, 2019.
Buter said no names would be released at this time.
