LANSING, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Legislation sponsored by Sen. Kim LaSata that would designate a portion of I-94 in Benton Township as the Kevin D. White Memorial Highway is now on its way to Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s desk after being approved by the Michigan House of Representatives last week.
White was a Michigan Department of Transportation worker who died in October 2019 from injuries sustained while on the job in Berrien County.
“This legislation will pay tribute to Kevin and also serve as a solemn reminder to everyone to drive safely and stay alert — especially in work zones,” LaSata, R-Coloma said. “It is tragic that his life was cut so short, and my heart breaks for his family and friends. While there is nothing that we can do to fully repay his sacrifice, we can do something to honor his memory.”
Senate Bill 48 would create the Kevin D. White Memorial Highway, which would begin at the I-94 and I-196 interchange and extend south to the Napier Avenue exit.
