EAST LANSING, MI (WJXQ) — The Michigan State University Board of Trustees has announced an unplanned meeting for Thursday morning where the future of interim school president John Engler is expected to be discussed.
Engler has come under recent fire after discussing Larry Nassar in an interview last week with the Detroit News in which he was quoted as saying that some of Nassar’s survivors were “enjoying their time in the spotlight.”
“I have watched Engler not only interact with our courageous survivors but our faculty, employees and students as well,” MSU Trustee Brian Mosallam told the Detroit News. “He’s not only a bully, he is a mean-spirited human being. His time is up.”
Mosallum is also quoted as saying “Engler’s reign of terror is over” at MSU, which is his alma mater..
It’s not clear if the MSU board plans a vote on Engler’s tenure as interim president. However, there is an item listed as “personnel action.” The agenda for the 8:00 a.m. meeting also includes discussion of the restoration of the counseling and mental health services fund restoration.
The meeting is scheduled to take place in the board room of the administration building on the MSU campus. There is no time listed for public comment on the meeting agenda.
