HOLLAND (WHTC-AM/FM) — Owners of the 205 Coffee Bar have reversed a plan to offer cannabidiol additives to beverages, according to a Holland Sentinel story.
The shop’s owner, Jacqueline Petro, told the paper she has a lawyer looking into the matter. The shop had to stop offering cannabidiol, for now, she told the paper.
Cannabidiol oil, a marijuana extract, is touted as a possible treatment for anxiety, pain, some forrms of treatment-resistant epilepsy, and other conditions.
Studies cited by National Institutes of Health researchers indicate there’s not a clear basis for that belief, in part because studies so far include small sample sizes, ranging from one patient, with no control group, to 39 patients.
CBD has been shown to have some side effects, such as tiredness, diarrhea, and changes of appetite or weight, as well as drug interactions, heightening the effects of sedatives, for example.
Either way, as the Ottawa County Department of Public Health’s bulletin states, based on current federal and state regulations, food service companies remain barred from offering CBD for sale or adding it to consumables, despite the legalization in Michigan of medical and recreational marijuana.
