ALBION, MI (WTVB) – It’s déjà vu in the City of Albion.
The Albion City Council has voted to investigate City Manager Latonya Rufus, who was just hired in October, but the Council is not saying why she is under investigation.
The decision was announced after a closed door meeting Thursday night.
There had been allegations of a financial irregularity in her moving expenses that Latonya Rufus angrily refuted at a January 14, 2019 meeting of the council.
She also claimed to be a victim of disrespect and racism.
The dust up follows the resignation Sheryl Mitchell, their previous City Manager, who stepped down last March to take a job with Lathrup Village near Detroit. Mitchell resigned the previous October after accusing City officials of undermining her in a performance evaluation but she withdrew her resignation before it became official.
Rufus has been put on paid administrative leave and finance director Tom Mead will serve as interim Manager.
