UNDATED (WKZO AM/FM) — It’s going to be a miserable weekend of winter weather in west Michigan forecasters all agree that it’s going to get worse next week, when even colder and snowier weather will move into the state.
National Weather Service Meteorologist Dan Peterson says it be a cold and snowy weekend with highs in the teens and sub-zero wind chills.. In fact he says the cold winds blowing over the lake are the kind that causes lake effect snow.
He says Monday a regional snow storm will blow through that could dump 4 to 8 inches of what they call “system snow”.
Then temperatures will really plunge.
We could see it dip to as low as 35-below on this side of the lake on Wednesday when the high may be below zero.
And consider this, it will be even worse in Wisconsin, where they don’t have Lake Michigan to blunt the impact of what will be rolling at us from northern Canada.
As the cold weather closes in, more communities are warning homeowners to keep a trickle of water running from one faucet in their house to keep their pipes from freezing.
Benton Harbor, Sturgis and Bronson are the latest communities to join Kalamazoo in the recommendation that could prevent a frozen line under your front yard from choking off your water supply completely.
