LANSING (WKZO AM/FM) — Governor Whitmer was not only concerned for the public’s safety, but the safety of law enforcers when she warned people to stay off the roads this week. We now may know why.
In the S.W. Michigan alone, State Police responded to 183 traffic crashes in this week’s arctic weather.
5th District Commander, Capt. Kyle Bowman says five State Police cruisers were struck by wayward motorists and two troopers had to be treated for minor injuries.
He says that’s why people should stay home when warned to stay off the roads, and why they have to observe the state’s move over laws, regardless of the conditions.
The move over law will become even more stringent mid-February, when slower speeds will be required and new emergency vehicles will be added to the list of those that should be protected.
