JACKSON, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Consumers Energy has restored power to the vast majority of customers who were left in the dark by this Sunday’s high winds.
They now say the storm resulted in a total of 127,500 customers losing power during the 12-hours when the most serious winds were blowing.
That’s a much larger number than was made available during the weekend.
Utility spokesman Terry Dedoes says they have just 3,200 still in the dark as of Tuesday morning. He says they should have most of them on by dinner time, but they will need all day and into the night to complete work in the hardest hit areas, like Kalamazoo, Hamilton and Greenville.
More than 1600 Consumers crews and contractors were engaged in the three day restoration effort.
Indiana and Michigan Electric report at the peak, they had 27,000 customers knocked off the system during Sunday’s storms. They began reassigning crews from Indiana to head across the border Monday, wrapping up the restoration effort near Buchanan overnight.
