KALAMAZOO COUNTY, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Emergency responders in Kalamazoo were kept busy Tuesday night by two separate crashes that caused several minor injuries and one death.
Now, Kalamazoo County Sheriff Richard Fuller is weighing in on the amount of crashes and reckless driving throughout the county.
He spoke with WKZO on Wednesday morning.
“It’s an unprecedented number of fatalities in this county this year,” Sheriff Fuller said. “We’ve had 20 fatalities this year alone, and that’s not including anything that happened yesterday.”
Normally in a given year, Sheriff Fuller says there’s only about 8 traffic-related fatalities, and there are several factors that may be causing this.
“The traffic speeds are up, as well as the reckless driving,” Fuller said. “The seat belt use is actually down, which is weird, and on top of that, there are a lot more people driving impaired.”
Sheriff Fuller now reminds residents that the goal of driving is always to get from point A to point B, and safely.
