MICHIGAN (WHTC-AM/FM) — Michigan State Police announced troopers located murder suspect and Holland resident Juan Sandro Cabrera, 18, in Watersmeet, MI, home. Watersmeet is less than eight miles east of the Michigan-Wisconsin border and just over 70 miles northwest of Iron Mountain.
Michigan State Police troopers worked with members of the Upper Peninsula Substance Enforcement Team (UPSET) to take Cabrera into custody, and did so without incident.
Detectives from the Ottawa County Sherriff’s Department had gotten a tip that Cabrera was in the UP.
Detectives from UPSET obtained a warrant and worked with the MSP’s Emergency Support Team to enter the home at about 5:30 a.m., Friday. Cabrera was held at the Gogebic County Jail until he could be transported to Ottawa County where he was arraigned on open murder, felony firearms possession and gang membership charges.
He remains in Ottawa County Jail without bond after his arraignment Monday before 58th District Court Judge Susan Jonas.
