KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Police in Kalamazoo have arrested a man accused in multiple shootings that have recently occurred in Portage and Kalamazoo.
On September 14, the Kalamazoo Valley Enforcement Team and the Crime Reduction team conducted a surveillance operation on the suspect in the 5000 block of West KL Avenue.
After taking the suspect into custody, a loaded handgun on his person, which was later found to be stolen. During a search of the suspect’s residence, investigators located additional evidence of firearms and suspected methamphetamine.
The firearm located during the arrest was forensically examined and found to be the weapon used during a shooting on September 12 on Lark Drive in Kalamazoo, as well as a shooting on September 3 at the Crossroads Mall in Portage.
The 29-year-old Kalamazoo man was arrested on the following charges –
- Carrying a Concealed Weapon,
- Felon in Possession of a Firearm,
- Felony Firearms,
- Possession of Methamphetamine, and
- Possession of a Stolen Firearm.
The suspect was lodged at the Kalamazoo County Jail. All charges will be reviewed by the Kalamazoo County Prosecutors Office.
