ST. JOSEPH (WKZO AM/FM) — Kalamazoo’s Strike Force team has advanced to the next round in this year’s first robotics competition held over the weekend in St. Joseph. They won 14 of 16 competitive events this weekend.
They are the defending world Champions and will next compete at the regionals in East Kentwood at the end of the month.
Winners from those events go to State Finals.

ST. JOSEPH (WKZO AM/FM) — Kalamazoo’s World Champion Stryke Force Robotics team is beginning the defense of their title this weekend at a competition in St. Joseph, and after nine matches on Friday, they are going into the second day of the competition leading the pack.
Craig Herschleb who has a child on the team says this year’s tasks is simulating the operation of robots on a distant planet, moving cargo, dealing with sand storms and performing different tasks.
They have custom designed and built remote controlled robots to carry out those specific tasks, and trained to work them with maximum efficiency.
He says they get an automatic bid to return to this year’s world championships in Detroit, but they want to earn it anyway.
Elimination rounds are being held across the state as teams compete to move on to the next round of competition.
