KALAMAZOO (WKZO AM/FM) — It has been one year to the day since Saheeda Nadeem was given sanctuary from Homeland Security at the First Congregational Church in Kalamazoo, in her effort to avoid deportation to Pakistan.
Since then she has turned 63 and lost her father.
She has been in the U.S. for 14-years but overstayed her visa and after losing two appeals, was due to be deported when she took refuge in the church last March 12th.
She says there is nothing for her in Pakistan.
Pastor Nathan Dannison says she is welcome to stay at their sanctuary until she can resolve her issues with immigration authorities.
