LANSING, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Local governments will have a little less to spend on roads this year because of a computer error.
The Michigan Department of Transportation sent out too much money to county road commissions, cities and villages last year, and now they want it back.
They plan to take it out in increments from this year’s payments.
It’s about 2 to 3% of the total sent out.
For Kalamazoo City and County it adds up to about half a million dollars. Ottawa County will repay more than $442,000.
For Calhoun County it’s a little over $200,000 and Battle Creek will have to reimburse the state $120,000.
Branch County will have to trim $106,000 from this year’s spending.
And Allegan County will be giving up $223,000.
