KALAMAZOO (WKZO AM/FM) — Michigan State Police have released the name of the gunman from Tuesday’s shooting at the Biomat USA in Kalamazoo.
He is 31-year-old Brandon Stacey of Cooper Township in Kalamazoo County. Stacey was a former volunteer firefighter in Parchment and had worked for about a year and a half for Life Ambulance.
He was working at the plasma collection center where the shooting occurred on Tuesday.
First Lt. Charles Christensen says an autopsy was performed on Wednesday, and information from that will be included with statements from the two police officers involved, interviews with witnesses, friends and
Family of the gunman and forensic evidence in an investigation file which will be turned over to the Prosecutor’s office. He will then decide if lethal force was justified.
Chief Karianne Thomas says he appeared to be intent on ambushing the police. He walked in to the business late in the morning, fired a shot and told co-workers to call police, and then waited for them at the front door. No one at the business was hurt.
State Police will be trying to determine if it was due to animosity toward the polce, a case of “suicide by cop” or some other reason. They may never know. .
If all the information that has been released is correct, It seems fairly clear that the officers were justified in firing back.
A funeral has been set for Stacey this Saturday.
