LANSING (WKZO AM/FM) — Resolutions supporting the Green New Deal, a very aggressive and progressive proposal to transition the U.S. to renewable energy and enact new social programs has been introduced in Congress by a handful of Democrats.
Now a resolution opposing it in Michigan has been submitted by a Republican from Calhoun County. House Representative Matt Hall says it would be devastating to Michigan, because they want to phase out the internal combustion engine.
He says the Green New Deal is “hostile to traditional American principles.” It passed 9 to 7 in committee on a straight party vote, and will now go to the full House for debate.
Democrats say it’s a federal issue, not a state issue and it was a waste of time for the committee to take it up.
The resolution will now head to the floor of the House for debate.
