OTTAWA COUNTY (WHTC-AM/FM) — Ottawa County Sheriff’s detectives continue investigating the shooting death of 14-year-old Troy “T.J.” Wells Jr. And they’ve just announced new charges in the Feb. 16, 2019, shooting at the Hampton Inn in Holland Township..
Currently, 18-year-old Holland resident Juan Sandro Cabrera is in custody, charged with Wells’ murder; on Tuesday, the Ottawa County Prosecutor’s Office approved charging Cabrera’s father, Juan Pablo Cabrera, 34, with obstructing police by lying during a homocide investigation.
According to Ottawa County Sheriff’s Capt. Mark Bennett, the elder Cabrera allegedly made “knowingly false statements to Sheriff’s detectives during the investigation of the murder.”
Because the elder Cabrera has a significant criminal history, he’ll also face charges of being a habitual offender, and may face additional charges.
Bennett indicated police are looking at additional suspects in this case.
