SOUTHWEST MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Three small towns in the area are getting big grants to upgrade their water systems from the U.S. Department of Agriculture through the State of Michigan.
Vicksburg will get $2.8-million in low interest loans to upgrade service lines and run a new service to the $50-million dollar renovation project at the old Vicksburg Paper Plant, and improve the storm sewer system.
Fennville in Allegan County will get a $1.1-million dollar loan to upgrade their water system and replace lead service lines.
The Village of Homer in Calhoun County will get an $826,000 loan to make improvements to its sewer system and to make repairs at the sewage plant, including a new aeration system, lagoon liners and new control system.
The fourth and largest sum will go to Portage Township near Houghton in the U.P. to provide sewer service along the M-26 corridor, where the current systems are failing. They will get a $2-million dollar grant and a $1-million dollar loan.
