KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — The 2020 election is still over 500 days away, but State Representative Jon Hoadley is not wasting any time, making a major announcement.
Hoadley announced last night at the Portage Library that he will challenge Congressman Fred Upton in the 2020 U.S. House race.
He spoke on WKZO Monday morning and says “it’s really important to people and community back at the center of our decisions.”
He highlighted the “big challenges” in the district including clean drinking water in Parchment, child care for working parents, senior living, and other issues.
He says it’s not about “team red” or “team blue” but about putting together a set of ideas and policy proposals to make people’s lives better.
Congressman Upton’s campaign spokesman released a statement saying, “Fred Upton has always been focused on fighting for common-sense ideas that actually work and help southwest Michigan’s families. So far this year, Fred has been receiving tremendous feedback from folks here at home on a number of bipartisan issues he’s been working on, including the economy, PFAS, protecting the Great Lakes, improving health care, and more. We understand there are those excited to start politicking, but right now Fred’s energy and efforts are focused on solving problems.“
Hoadley plans to kick off a 16-city tour of the district this weekend to introduce himself to parts of the district where he may not have much name recognition.
