HOLLAND (WTHC-AM/FM) — Term-limited Democratic State Representative Jon Hoadley’s announced this week that he’ll challenge Congressman Fred Upton in 2020.
Rep. Upton suggested it’s too early for campaign talk. (Listen to the complete interview in this podcast.)
“We’re doing everything to run again, that’s for sure,” he said. “It’s early. Let’s face it, it’s way too early. It’s a two-year term. This is literally the third month. We’ve got three months under our belt. The last thing I want to do is start thinking about a campaign, at this point. “
Though that’s not an official announcement, he did add a hint for those watching politics.
“We’ve had a campaign office open. It’s never closed, let me put it that way,” he said, laughing. “But this is the off year. This is when your’e supposed to be getting things done — focused on policy. Focused on issues.”
Upton edged out his last challenger, Matt Longjohn, by less than five-percent in last November’s election.
