KALAMAZOO (WKZO AM/FM) — Prosecutor Jeff Getting has cleared two Kalamazoo Public Safety Officers in the shooting death of Brandon Stacey, stopping just short of calling it cop assisted suicide.
After reviewing evidence and Body Cam video, Getting praised for the officers who did not hesitate to act when they knew through training that quick intervention could save lives.
He says Stacey had attempted suicide twice before, and had family problems. Just that day he had been asked by his wife to move out.
Getting says Stacey’s social media was full of discussions about suicide and his depression.
The gunman told a fellow employee at Biomat USA, where the shooting took place, that he had received treatment but it didn’t work.
Getting says 27 shots were fired.
PSO Brendan Westrick was hit twice in his bulletproof vest and once in his holster. First year Officer Emily Westin was not wounded. Stacey was hit four times and died at the scene.
