HOLLAND (WHTC-AM/FM) — Holland police took a man into custody after an early morning incident in downtown Holland, at the women’s clothing store Talbot’s, 23 West Eighth St.
A Holland police officer patrolling downtown spotted the suspect inside the business, at 4:24 a.m., according to Holland Police Capt. Keith Mulder. Police set up a perimeter and called in a K-9 unit.
Officers searched the building and found the suspect hiding inside, arresting him without incident. He’s believed to be involved in other downtown-area break-ins, but detectives are reviewing the evidence to present to prosecutors.
Earlier this month, Holland Department of Public Safety issued an alert, saying that police were investigating seven downtown burglaries. Since March 22, 2019, police have investigated 15 breaking-and-entering cases and two cases where attempted break-ins failed. Over the most-recent weekend, six businesses reported break-ins, with two failed attempts.
Holland police detectives, working with business owners, were able to get surveillance footage from area cameras.
Officers and detectives went beyond what they could find on the cameras, stepping up foot patrols, processing evidence, and conducting additional interviews.
The suspect remains in custody in Holland, pending arraignment, when his name will be made public.
