LANSING (WKZO AM/FM) — Survivors say Larry Nassar could have been stopped from molesting young gymnasts years earlier if only authorities had listened.
Legislation just introduced in Congress would require that Presidents at colleges that receive federal funding submit annual reports stating that they reviewed all cases of sexual assault and abuse involving students and staff.
A bipartisan group of Michigan lawmakers has held a news conference launching the bills.
Senators Gary Peters and Debbie Stabenow, Representatives Elyssa Slotkin,Paul Mitchell and Fred Upton all participated in the news conference. They are calling it the ALERT Act which stands for The Accountability of Leaders in Education to Report Title IX Investigations ACT. Similar bills are being introduced in both the House and Senate.
