GALESBURG, MI (WTVB) – A 13-year-old girl from Galesburg whose disappearance triggered an Amber Alert overnight has been found safe and sound.
State Police say Calista Kay Rose had been missing since early Tuesday morning.
Sheriff Rick Fuller says initial reports that she may have been with a 45-year-old man were apparently incorrect. He says she was simply a runaway, who apparently took a family vehicle and never strayed very far from home.
Fuller says the man mentioned in the Amber Alert was apparently in no way involved, had never met the girl and had no contact with her.
Fuller says he has not talked to the man, but would like to, simply to explain what happened.
Fuller wasn’t sure what criteria was used by State Police to issue the Amber Alert.
The young girl is back with her family. Fuller says they put in considerable time tracking down leads and they may pursue some response through the prosecutor but refused to provide details.
The Amber Alert was cancelled a few minutes after she was found.
