TEXAS TOWNSHIP (WKZO AM/FM) — The Kalamazoo County Road Commission has declared three road closures because of the rising water in Texas Township, and they aren’t sure how long it may take to reopen them.
They say don’t move the barriers or try to go through the water because you don’t know how deep it is or whether the roadway has been washed out under the surface.
In fact yesterday’s rainfall may have made the situation worse and not better. The roads impacted near Eagle and Crooked Lake include; O Avenue, S Avenue and North and East Eagle Lake Drives.
Unlike Dearborn Heights which was also flooded by this week’s rainy weather and where the water has already receded, there is no place for the water to go in Texas Township.
The governor has declared a State of Emergency in Dearborn Heights. Gretchen Whitmer says thousands of homes were damaged by the flooding there.
Officials in Texas Township have considered also requesting a disaster declaration but have been told they would not be eligible.
