COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) — A Batavia Township man was given a 30 day jail sentence and placed on probation for a year Monday in Branch County District Court for biting his six-year-old son.
25-year-old Jeremy Cook entered a no contest plea to a reduced charge of fourth degree child abuse as part of a plea agreement with the Branch County Prosecutor’s Office.
Cook was originally arraigned for third degree child abuse.
In exchange for his plea, prosecutors dismissed a charge of lying to police officers.
Cook was accused of biting his 6-year old son on his neck January 10, 2019.
According to court documents, he initially told troopers he was playing a game about werewolves and vampires with the youngster and accidentally bit his son because he twitched. He later recanted his story and told investigators he disciplined the boy for taking his vape pipe.
Troopers said the boy told a child protective services worker about the incident.
