BATTLE CREEK, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Two high flying expansions have been announced at opposite ends of Kellogg Airport in Battle Creek.
The Western Michigan University College of Aviation plans to break ground Friday on a new 67,000 square foot expansion of its facility, to provide more space for a growing number of students.
Right now aviation is a hot career. It pays well and there is a great need for trained pilots and mechanics, because a lot of the jobs are being filled by personnel nearing retirement.
Enrollment is up 35% in the last 5 years.
The new $20-million dollar facility will provide more classrooms, labs, computer facilities, flight simulators and a café.
Also adjacent to runway in Battle Creek, Waco Classic Aircraft Corporation has announced plans spend $20-million to expand their manufacturing facility and add additional staff to increase their production by three or four times.
There is apparently a growing appetite for their replicas of vintage aircraft.
