STURGIS, MI (WTVB) — St. Joseph County authorities have charged a nine-year-old boy with murder in Monday’s fatal shooting near Sturgis.
Investigators say the boy, who came from a troubled home and had a history of mental health issues, shot 63-year-old Pauline Randall at their home on Plumb School Road in Fawn River Township.
Court documents also show the child is also facing a felony firearm charge.
It isn’t clear if he is charged as an adult or a juvenile.
The circumstances surrounding the killing have also not been released.
St. Joseph County Sheriff Bradley Balk said Wednesday the boy was undergoing a psychiatric evaluation at a state-run juvenile facility.
