KALAMAZOO (WKZO AM/FM) — A 21-year-old wanted felon is in custody after he was spotted on Douglas Avenue late Saturday night and tried to flee police.
Officers caught up to the suspect on West Michigan Avenue at about 11 pm and tried to get the driver to stop.
The suspect abruptly accelerated and immediately lost control of the vehicle on the rain soaked payment and hit two poles, leaving the vehicle too damaged to operate.
The driver was pulled out of the wreckage and arrested. They claim that the suspect was drunk and had suspected cocaine in the car that was packaged and ready for sale.
They also seized a large sum of cash.
He was booked into the County Jail for the outstanding felony, and will have an assortment of new drug, drunken driving and fleeing and eluding charges added to the list.
