LANSING, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Law enforcement officers are reminding drivers that buckling up not only saves lives, but it also saves you some money.
The statewide “Click It or Ticket” campaign is in effect from now until June 2nd.
Over 100 law enforcement agencies around the state will be part of the overtime enforcement group campaign to educate and enforce information about proper seat belt use.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration released a video saying that there’s no good excuse for not buckling up.
In fact, Kendall Wingrove, Communications Section Chief with the Michigan Office of Highway Safety Planning, says 3 out of every 4 people that are ejected from a vehicle in a crash will die.
Michigan law require drivers, front seat passengers and passenger 15-years-old or younger to be buckled up at all times and not doing so could cost result in a $65 ticket.
Wingrove says it’s best to educate young children early and get them putting their seat belt on now, so they continue to do it well into adulthood.
