KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Demonstrators are protesting against several new abortion bans introduced in different states, including Michigan.
More than 400 rallies were held across the country on Tuesday, including on the steps of the Supreme Court.
At Tuesday night’s Kalamazoo county commission meeting Vice-Chair Tracy Hall spoke about how we need real reproductive justice
This comes after the Michigan Heartbeat Coalition announced that they are launching a petition drive to ban abortions in Michigan once a fetal heartbeat is detected, which averages about six weeks into pregnancy.
The group submitted paperwork to the Secretary of State’s office Tuesday, which would make it a felony for Michigan doctors to perform the practice.
Representative Steven Johnson of Wayland is backing the idea and is expected to introduce legislation later this week.
The petition is separate from a similar campaign by organization Right to Life, which is currently campaigning to end Dilation and Evacuation abortions.
