PARCHMENT, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — A sewage spill took place in the city of Parchment Wednesday morning. Kalamazoo Department of Public Services personnel responded when they became aware of the problem, reported at around 10:00 a.m..
The discharge was coming from a manhole located in the 600 block of Hay Mac St.. It’s believed the problem was the result of equipment failure at the sanitary lift station on that street.
The overflow was stopped within 15 minutes. The estimated amount of sewage released in the area was 175 gallons.
Repairs have been completed and the public services officials expect normal flow conditions going forward.
As required by law, Water Reclamation Plant personnel notified the Michigan Department of Environmental, Great Lakes and Energy (EGLE) at the Kalamazoo District Office and the Kalamazoo County Environmental Health Unit of the spill.
