BATTLE CREEK, MI (WTVB) – A pair of unrelated shootings on Battle Creek’s northeast side early Monday has left one man dead and three others are injured,
According to the Battle Creek Enquirer, Battle Creek police said the fatal shooting happened shortly after and near the first incident but said the incidents were not related.
Around 3:15 a.m. Monday officers believe a 38-year-old man shot at a pick-up truck on Poplar Street near Capital Avenue Northeast. The truck was driven by a 42-year-old Battle Creek man. Police say the two men have had an ongoing dispute.
Police say the passenger side window of the pick-up truck was shattered but the driver was not injured. However the driver then struck the alleged shooter, injuring him and another man.
Both of the injured men were taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The man believed to be the shooter was arrested and is in police custody at a Kalamazoo hospital while being treated for serious injuries.
As police were investigating that shooting they said they believe another man, 42, who lives nearby, was walking towards the police lights at the scene. The 42-year-old man reportedly encountered a woman walking a dog in the 300 block of Capital Avenue Northeast and about a block from the first shooting.
Battle Creek Police say words were exchanged, and a short time later a man believed unrelated to the female or the other man cames up and fired shots. Two people were.
The 42-year-old man was shot as many as nine times and pronounced dead at Bronson Methodist Hospital in Kalamazoo.
A second man, 34, was struck in the shoulder.
Police, with a tracking dog, were unable to find the suspect and he was still being sought Monday. He is described as a black man weighing 230 to 250 pounds and wearing a grey sweatshirt.
