BATTLE CREEK, MI (WTVB) — The Battle Creek community is morning the loss and remembering the young boy who was struck and killed by a Calhoun County deputy’s cruiser last week.
A vigil was held Sunday night for 11-year-old Norman Hood, less than a mile away from where the crash happened last Tuesday night on Michigan Avenue in Battle Creek.
Witnesses say he was actually walking his motorized bike and not riding it when the deputy hit him.
The cruiser had no lights or sirens on and the deputy was apparently responding to another crime.
Authorities did not place the deputy on any kind of leave and the investigation was turned over to the Michigan State Police Department.
