KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Patients of a Kalamazoo area doctor are being urged to get tested for HIV and Hepatitis after complaints about improper cleaning of some of the instruments used.
Staff members filed the complaints against Dr. Roger Beyer, who owns Urological Solutions of Michigan and Women’s Health Care Specialists.
They say he instructed staff to reuse anorectal devices on multiple patients, which are approved for one-time use only, and they were only cleaned occasionally.
In the administrative complaint document, one staff member stated that, “she re-used the Prometheus RPS [rectal pressure sensor] across multiple patients and that she estimates that a sensor was used over 100 times before being replaced.”
Beyer told WOOD TV that the allegations were not true and it was a big misunderstanding.
While no reports of disease have been filed, patients are still urged to get tested as a precaution.
Beyer can challenge these allegations by requesting a hearing with the state.
