UNDATED, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Officials with Michigan’s Department of Natural Resources are warning residents about concerns of rising lake water levels and the increased risk of electric shock drowning.
They say many docks and piers that have electrical connections are being flooded due to higher waves and water levels.
This can cause electrical shock drowning if someone comes into contact with a stray electric current.
According to the DNR’s website if you think some has been shocked:
- Throw in a life ring or other flotation device.
- Never enter the water. You could become a victim too!
- Turn off the shore power connection and disconnect power cord from pedestal.
- Call for help. Use 911 or VHF Channel 16 (as appropriate).
Residents are advised to stay vigilant this summer with high water levels.
