LEROY TOWNSHIP, MI (WTVB) – A 63-year-old man is in custody after a nearly two hour standoff with police Monday night in Calhoun County’s Leroy Township.
Deputies from the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office received information that a man was shooting into a house in the 3000 block of B Drive South.
When they arrived, deputies say they saw the man physically assaulting a woman.
The man then barricaded himself and the female inside the residence and refused to come out. He also said he was armed and would not come out.
For over two hours, crisis negotiators tried to defuse the situation.
The suspect was seen walking around with a shotgun.
When he got more agitated and it appeared negotiations would be unsuccessful, the Calhoun County Special Response team entered the home and secured the man and woman.
The man was arrested for aggravated domestic assault and other related charges. His name is being withheld pending arraignment.
