BATTLE CREEK, MI (WTVB) – Calhoun County and a Calhoun County Sheriff’s Department deputy are being taken to court by the family of 11-year-old Norman Hood, Jr.
The youngster was struck and killed by a patrol car on Michigan Avenue in Battle Creek. The cruiser had no lights or sirens on as the deputy was apparently responding to another crime.
Witnesses say the boy was walking his motorized bike and not riding it when he was hit which is contrary to what was first reported by the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Department.
The Battle Creek Enquirer reports the family is seeking $25 million in damages.
The Michigan State Police are still investigating the accident and the deputy’s name has not been released.
